Blue Flags Wave Throughout Liguria

The world’s cleanest sea is in Italy (roughly 10% of the total), while Liguria is the region scoring the highest number of Blue Flags.

The qualities required to meet Blue Flag standard predominantly include water quality, regularly assessed through the analysis of water samples from the previous summer, and the evaluation of services and facilities such as:

°          Efficient waste water disposal and sewage treatment;

°          Separate waste collection, safe disposal of hazardous waste;

°          Cleanliness of the urban area;

°          Large pedestrian areas;

°          Cycle lanes;

°          Adequate lifesaving equipment and lifeguards available at all beaches;

°          Access for the disabled;

°          Accommodation facilities;

°          Tourist information centres;

°          Adequate sanitary facilities;

°          Updated street signs … and many other requirements.

Yep, that’s right!

Liguria has been awarded this prestigious prize for the 4^th year in a row. On this occasion it has even been given 20 Blue Flags, one more than last year.
